Es stammt von Betrieben im Süden Brasiliens (Rio Grande do Sul) und durchläuft einen innovativen Gerbungsprozess, bei dem keine Chrom-, Schwermetalle oder gefährliche Säuren verwendet werden. Durch die Vereinfachung des Gerbungsprozesses werden Chemikalien- und Energieverbrauch minimiert, der Wasserverbrauch um etwa 40% und der Salzverbrauch um 80% reduziert. Nach der Gerbung ist das Wasser recycelbar.
